PRESERVED & PLACED
slab-built white earthenware, oil paints, encaustic with press molds of dirt dauber nests
Dirt daubers are solitary wasps that only sting spiders to stun them before packing them into a nest to feed hatching pupa. Industrious wasps that create nests one ball of dirt at a time, the daubers don't swarm or attack their nests or intruders. This congratulatory cake is a 3-D "sampler" honoring the variety and ingenuity of their production.
