We’ve discovered that there are Mycorrhizhal, or symbiotic, associations between plants and fungi. The relationship plays important roles in plant nutrition, soil biology and soil chemistry. And the existence of this symbiotic connection among plants helps the plant communities survive. Messengers is a portrait of a barren landscape with what appears to be a diseased or dying tree root. But knowing what we know about the Mycorrhizae (fungus-root) process, we can take hope from what’s not shown, what’s working underground, the grand design that gives me hope for the future as we work to create meaningful responses to climate change.
